The Awakening at the Edge of a Dream

An illuminated carousel at the end of a street, silhouettes passing without a glance

The air has that muffled density of winter days, when time coils in on itself. On the dark cobblestones, solitary figures slip past, bent under the weight of the hours, that bittersweet gravity that turns eyes away. Yet just behind them, a carousel blazes. It does more than merely turn; it hums at some forgotten frequency, a tear of light in the city's monochrome weave, an invitation to another physics, one where joy weighs nothing.

The border between the greyness of habit and the brilliance of wonder is thin, dizzying, within reach. Yet the passing figures brush against this kingdom without daring to enter it, inhabited as they are by the familiar cold of their own ruts.

But the carousel remains. It waits, an unshaken sentinel of childhood, burning with a promise that never fades. It takes only a lifted gaze, one step aside out of line, for magic to stop being a mere neighbor and become a destination.
